Canada anemone can be found on rich woodland edges and in wet meadows. When it is in the open, it is often in a big patch.

This is a lovely plant with great flowers but it is known for “taking over “ the home landscape. I planted Canada anemone where it would be competing with common blue violet and wild strawberry. The Canada anemone easily wins this battle and I end up having to remove some of it every year. That said, I sure do enjoy it when it is in bloom. Try it as a mass planting in a large pot or boxed-in garden bed.

This plant has leaves that are reminiscent of wild geranium leaves. Flowers have large white petals with many yellow stamens in the center. It is found throughout the state of Michigan.

One benefit this plant has is that mammals tend not to eat it.
