Canada Anemone (Anemone canadensis)
from $3.50
Sold Out
Canada anemone can be found on rich woodland edges and in wet meadows. When it is in the open, it is often in a big patch.
This is a lovely plant with great flowers but it is known for “taking over “ the home landscape. I planted Canada anemone where it would be competing with common blue violet and wild strawberry. The Canada anemone easily wins this battle and I end up having to remove some of it every year. It spreads by rhizome and by seed. That said, I sure do enjoy it when it is in bloom. Try it as a mass planting in a large pot or boxed-in garden bed.
This plant has leaves that are reminiscent of wild geranium leaves. They are deeply lobed. Flowers have five large white petals with many yellow stamens in the center and anthers covered in pollen. Canada anemone is found throughout the state of Michigan.
One benefit of this plant is that mammals tend not to eat it.
Companion Plants: shooting star, starry false Solomon’s seal, sweet grass, cinnamon fern
