Awned Graceful Sedge grows two to three feet high. The spikelets of achenes stand up early on, while green. As they begin to turn orange and brown, they dangle down. The bases of the leaves are reddish and the leaves are hairy.

This sedge can be found in depressions in the wood, but also on slopes near rivers and streams in the southern half of the lower peninsula. It is not a very common sedge, though there may be a lot of it in the places it is found.

Sedges are important in any habitat for holding soil in place, offering cover for small animals and seeds for birds to eat. Several moths and skippers use sedges as host plants.

Companion Plants: Wild hyacinth, Virginia bluebells, American bittersweet, wild yam, moonseed, sensitive fern, cardinal flower, wild geranium
