Downy Woodmint (Blephilia ciliata)
from $3.50
Sold Out
Downy Woodmint can be found on hillside prairies, in savannahs, on borders and in open areas. Our other Woodmint, Hairy Woodmint, is more likely to be in the woods than Downy Woodmint, but my observations have all been in part-sun or dappled light.
The two plants are quite different with Hairy Woodmint being taller, having white flowers with purple speckles, and being covered in long hairs. Downy woodmint tends to grow to about 2 feet tall or shorter and have purple flowers. Additionally it has short hairs. Both plants have tiers of flowers at the top of the stems.
Other common names are Ohio Horsemint and Pagoda Plant.
Since it is a mint, the nectar is attractive to a lot of bees, wasps, flies, butterflies and moths. And,it is not likely to be chomped by mammals.
