Hairy beardtongue can be found in prairies and savannahs. Here is another plant that can handle both dry conditions and some shade, but you can grow it in the sun and in wetter soils too.

Hairy beardtongue helps bridge the gap from the spring flowers to the summer flowers as it blooms from late May to late June. Flowers can be lavender, blue or white. It is a shorter plant with smaller flowers than Foxglove Beardtongue. It does provide nectar for hummingbirds.

Companion plants for Hairy Beardtongue: fire pink, alum root, Carex sprengelii, robin’s plantain, yellow pimpernel, downy woodmint and wood betony.
