Moonseed (Menispermum canadense)
from $3.50
Sold Out
Moonseed is a vine with uniquely shaped leaves that tends to grow in floodplains. The plant gets its name from the large, crescent moon-shaped seeds found inside the dark blue berries. The clumps of berries look a lot like clumps of wild grapes
This vine is toxic to mammals, but the berries are eaten by many birds. The leaves are the hosts of the Moonseed Moth.
Growing vines is a great way to include more species in your planting which tends to support more wildlife. Vines also provide more cover for birds when they climb up and into trees.
Moonseed is diecious so it has male vines and female vines. If you want your vines to produce berries, consider buying 3-5 to ensure both species.
