Sweet Grass (Anthoxanthum hirtum)
from $3.50
What a lovely name! Sweet Grass. It is named after the sweet vanilla scent of the leaves.
It naturally occurs in moist to wet places including fens, wet meadows, and the edge of forests. It spreads by rhizome in wet areas.
It has panicles of flowers in the spring which turn golden as they age. One seed per flower develops. Later in the season, more leaves come up after that point and these are the leaves that are used by indigenous people for braiding and basket-making.
If you plant this where it is drier, it will need to be in a cool place with cool soil. It is unlikely to spread in these conditions.
