Stout Woodreed (Cinna arundinacea)
from $3.50
Stout Woodreed is also known as Sweet Woodreed and Wood-reed Grass. It is found in wet woods, including flood plains and is not common in dry places.
Stout Woodreed occurs mostly in the southern half of the lower peninsula of Michigan. Another species, Drooping Woodreed (Cinna latifolia), occurs mostly north of there. Stout Woodreed has more leaves and a tighter inflorescence than Drooping Woodreed.
The inflorescence is pyramid shaped when it is in bloom, or it can droop to one side. The whole plant can be from 3-6 feet high. The inflorescence may remain green, or turn a slightly coppery color in the fall which is quite beautiful.
