Upland Boneset (Eupatorium sessilifolium)
from $3.50
Sold Out
Upland boneset grows nicely in dry shade. Home gardeners are often looking for this type of plant!
In Michigan, upland boneset is considered threatened and only occurs in a few places in the southern three tiers of counties. It grows naturally in dry woods with oaks and hickories.
It is in the same genus as the common wetland plant, Common Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum) The wetland plant has leaves that surround the stem, while upland boneset has sessile leaves that abut the stem.
This plant blooms in August-September and is in the family Asteraceae. It is the host plant to a couple of moth species. I plan to keep an eye on the flowers next summer to see if they are as popular with tiny wasps and bees as Common Boneset.
Companion Plants: lopseed, jumpseed, fragrant sumac, witch hazel, redbud, horse gentian
