Wild Ginger
Woodlands Shop
We love to help people discover the possibilities of their shady landscapes. Whether you have some natural woods you’d like to improve or a shade tree with potential underneath, we can help you understand how to prepare a site for woodland wildflowers, sedges, and ferns. Our plants can help bring long-lasting beauty for humans and necessary ecological support for bees, butterflies, moths and other wildlife. We offer woodland wildflowers, a limited number of sedges and grasses, and a selection of ferns that are all native to Michigan. Please note that requirements for some of these plants differ from regular native plantings, mainly in soil richness and drainage. Let us help set you up for success!
Please read: Important information to consider before buying by clicking below:
Please note: we do not ship orders. All orders need to be picked up.**
We have many new species for 2026. As they are new, we don’t have overwintering inventory, so these will not be listed until we are sure that they will be ready to sell. But also, some of the plants that we are overwintering sell quickly and may not have inventory later in the season. We are ramping up production to try to avoid this problem for 2027.
Please see our Nursery Policies and FAQs for more information and reach out with any other questions or concerns to: info@wildgingerwoodlands.com
Below you will find the complete listing of all of the plants we sell. Most of the plants we sell are woodland plants, but we also sell some non-woodlands. Most of our plants are native to Michigan, but we do sell some plants that are native south or west of Michigan. We are working on including information about the location of our seed/spore sources. Please see each individual plant description for this information.
To see a specific subset of plants (e.g. ferns, walnut tolerant, deer resistance, dry shade, etc) click the links at the left (or top) of the next section. Otherwise, plants are alphabetized within their groups (eg. wildflowers, ferns, etc)
New for 2026, we have included Companion Plants within most of the listings. This can help guide you on which plants grow together well, but it is not all inclusive. If you’d need more help, feel free to email us: info@wildgingerwoodlands.com
If you are just getting started and your soil needs improvement, while you are working on enriching it with lots of decomposing leaves, we’ve got a special category below: Can Handle Poorer Soil. Check it out!
You can also use the search bar below to find what you need.
If a plant you would like to purchase is out of stock, you can add your email to be notified when it goes back in stock. To do this, select the size of pot you are interested in. A box will come up for you to enter your email address into.
** We are located at 221 Shoesmith Road in Haslett, MI. The nursery is not open to the public, except to pick up orders.
