Cream violet grows in medium, moist woodlands with other violets, spring beauty, trout lilies, Dutchman’s breeches, wild leeks and more. It is part of the showy spring ephemeral display in the woods, but after flowering, the bunches of heart-shaped remain.

Cream violet is white to cream with purple stripes down the center of the flower. Another common name is striped white violet. The plants can get quite large with many blooming flowers. Even in my relatively poor soil, they have done very well and stayed fresh and beautiful into the fall.

Violets are host plants for fritillary butterflies. But they also host sawflies, gall flies and various other moths according to Illinois Wildflowers.
