Wild Blue Phlox, Wood Phlox (Phlox divaricata)

from $5.00

Something you should definitely consider doing is smelling all of the blossoms you come across!

Wood Phlox, also known as wild blue phlox is one of the loveliest scents and not terribly subtle if you have a large group of them. Not to be confused with the invasive plant, dame’s rocket, phlox flowers have five petals while dame’s rocket has four and is generally quite a bit taller.

Wood Phlox will slowly creep by rhizome in the garden to fill a larger area if conditions are right. This plant can tolerate slightly drier soils than some other woodland plants.

Once the plant has flowered and produced its seeds (if pollinated), it produces infertile shoots that help store energy in the roots for the next season.

Lots of insects are attracted to the sweet nectar of the wood phlox flower, but they must be able to reach down into the tube of the flower to get it!
